Kitty often gets together with some of her friends who like to cook. They share recipes and take turns hosting. And by coincidence, all of them have ginger (red) hair, so they named themselves “The Ginger Club.”
Today is special, because the girls are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. They are also welcoming a new member, Kelsey, who recently moved to Maine. The girls gather in Kelsey’s new home for the meeting.
Maeve gives Kelsey a housewarming gift. It is a treasured piece of heirloom Irish crochet lace made into a table runner.
Here is a closeup of the lace. The thread is crocheted into intricate roses and pinwheel shapes.
Kitty offers Kelsey a fine china tea set from England. It looks beautiful with Kelsey’s gold-plated silverware.
Shannon Rose brings a chair that she handcrafted. It’s a replica of a chair from the Plymouth Colony in the Pilgrim Hall Museum. The original chair was made from white ash and maple in the 1600s. Kelsey loves antiques!
Kitty Friend Olivia charms Kelsey with some St. Patrick’s Day decor. It’s a frog holding a sign that says, “Green and Proud.”
Stormy, Kelsey’s dog, does not know what to make of him.
Kelsey thanks everyone for the gifts. Then it’s time for refreshments… ginger tea with spicy gingersnap cookies. Yum!
Next comes the entertainment. Olivia reads from the book, The Tale of Ginger and Pickles by Beatrix Potter. It’s about a dog named Pickles and a cat named Ginger who open a store together.
Once upon a time there was a village shop. The name over the window was “Ginger and Pickles.”

It was a little small shop just the right size for Dolls — Lucinda and Jane Doll-cook always bought their groceries at Ginger and Pickles.
The counter inside was a convenient height for rabbits. Ginger and Pickles sold red spotty pocket-handkerchiefs at a penny three farthings.
They also sold sugar, and snuff and galoshes.
After Olivia finishes reading, Maeve entertains the girls with an Irish dance with her leprechaun friends.
Stormy gets so excited, he barks and waves his tale happily.
Now it’s time to say goodby to Kelsey. All the girls promise to see each other again soon.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Don’t forget to wear green!
