Perfume Hitty has a new travel case made by Michael Langton, and she wants to show it off. On the front are the words, “Hitty’s Here!” because Hitty loves to travel to new places and visit friends all over the world. With this travel case, she can feel at home wherever she goes.
The hinged case opens to reveal four sections: a bedroom, a closet, a place to hold Perfume Hitty, secured with ribbons, and a dressing table with mirror. The design is very clever, and it’s perfect for traveling.

The travel case has a built-in Murphy bed which can fold up when not in use.

Perfume Hitty’s closet holds her favorite dresses. Which one will she wear next?

The bench from the closet can be moved to make a cozy sitting area. Inside the drawer is a place to store pillows or other belongings.

The dressing table has a drawer that really opens and a matching stool which stows away underneath. It’s the perfect place for her jewelry box and beauty products.

She can also use it to display her collection of antique perfume bottles.

Hitty Sis dropped in for a visit while Perfume Hitty was arranging them. She admired all of the colorful shapes and sizes.

After a nice talk with her friend, Perfume Hitty was ready for bed. Good night, Perfume Hitty. Safe travels!

Before Photos
Perfume Hitty’s travel case was made by Michael Langton. Earlier this year, he sent me the unfinished case and asked if I would like to put the finishing touches on it. Of course I said yes!
Here is a photo of how Michael Langton’s travel case looked when I received it.

I applied a thinned coat of Almondine craft paint to the unfinished wood areas, which allowed the wood grain to show through. The furniture was stained with an acrylic gel stain in oak color. To finish it all I added 2 top coats of Minwax Polycrylic Satin.

All the decoration on the front is hand-painted. At first it was going to say “Hitty’s Home,” but I changed it to “Hitty’s Here!” because Hitty is at home wherever she travels. The white letters are outlined with a gold paint pen. In the background is a mauve-colored heart. I used sky blue for the underlined accent. Then I distressed the entire logo with sandpaper before applying a clear coat of Minwax Polycrylic Satin.

After the painting and staining was finished, the bed was too snug. I sanded the sides of the box with a Dremel Multi-max tool to get it to fit.

I added tiny “feet” on the bottom of the bed to make it more stable. These were made from bead cap jewelry findings.

The fabric wallpaper in the closet section was coming loose. I decided to replace it with a neutral striped wallpaper. The same wallpaper was used to line the drawers.

In place of the pink heart on the bedroom wall, I put a framed photo of Ancestor Hitty. The gold resin frame is from the scrapbook section of Hobby Lobby. I made the bedspread and matching pillow from my “Daguerreotype Dress” fabric. The pink heart-shaped pillow was made from velour. I also made a bolster pillow and covered the dressing table stool with the same pink velour.

For the final touch, I added antique brass corner protectors to the edges of the case.

Renovating the travel case has been a fun project. Thank you, Michael for trusting me with it. Perfume Hitty is extremely grateful for your generosity and will treasure her new portable home.
